The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) is now accepting applications for a summer internship program at ESPN. This is the second year in our ongoing partnership between the NAHJ Sports Task Force and ESPN’s employee resource group SOMOS ESPN, which places an NAHJ student with ESPN. Applications will be accepted through March 2, 2018.
An NAHJ student has the opportunity to be placed in a paid internship with ESPN.
Held from June 11 – August 17, 2018
The internship will likely be with ESPNFC, the team leading ESPN’s coverage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup
Internship will be held in Bristol, CT or Los Angeles, CA
Paid for 10 weeks, 40 hours per week
Programming during the summer includes speaker events with ESPN leaders, and networking opportunities with recruiters for full-time positions
Journalism major, interest in pursuing a career in sports journalism
GPA of 3.0 or higher
NAHJ student member
Undergraduate or graduate student with a target graduation date of May 2018, Dec. 2018 or May 2019

Students will be placed in either an editorial or production internship.
ESPN’s Production Department consists of three units: Studio Production, Event Production and International Production. The internship position will be involved in several phases of either department, including technical responsibilities such as operating a teleprompter during live programming and content responsibilities such as editing material for air, producing highlight content for air and preparing element reels for use by Event Production Department producers. The internship position could also be involved in joining specific show or sport staffs.
The ESPN.com Editorial intern will be responsible for editing content, with the primary focus on stories slated for the ESPN.com Page 1 index. Candidates must show proficiency in editing for grammar and AP style and should be prepared to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. In addition to working directly with copy desk editors and editors in other departments daily, the internship will also provide exposure to other divisions of ESPN through job shadowing, offering an excellent opportunity for aspiring journalists to assess the inner workings of the company with an eye on potential career paths.
SOMOS ESPN and the NAHJ Sports Task Force, which promotes diversity in America’s sports departments and provides programming toward developing future sports journalists, will review applications and submit them to ESPN. Applicants will be notified in March.
